The history of Barcelonnette
In the 19e century three brothers set out to seek their fortune in the textile industry in Mexico.
Their enterprise proved a success and they were rapidly followed by other people from Barcelonnette. When these people returned to Barcelonnette they wanted to show how rich they had become. So they built beautiful Mexican villas. Unfortunately some of the families then went back to Mexico, which meant that some of the villas were left vacant for so long that the townspeople forgot who the owners were or where they were in Mexico.
